What is a Postpartum Doula?
A Postpartum Doula is an in-home support for parents of newborns during the Fourth Trimester/first 12 weeks postpartum. The Doula is an expert in what-to-expect and normal postpartum adjustment and transitions. The Postpartum Doula nurtures, educates, assesses and refers her clients in the hopes to put herself out of a job when the family is feeling strong and supported enough to carry on independently.
A Postportum Doula Does Not:
-educate based on their own beliefs
-judge clients, their family members or friends
-diagnose conditions in the mother or any other family member
-overstep boundaries or consider herself an expert while functioning in her role as the doula
-perform medical or clinical tasks
